What does volunteering look like?

A dental mission trip offers various chances to work alongside licensed dentists to gain valuable practical experience!  Many underprivileged communities have insufficient knowledge on proper oral hygiene or limited access to healthcare. Therefore, they are more likely to suffer from oral diseases.

As a volunteer abroad, you will assist qualified dentists during check-ups or visit rural areas to raise awareness of dental hygiene.

Are you ready to share your knowledge and passion for dentistry with other fellow dentists and dental students on a dental mission trip? Then sink your teeth into our dental mission trips abroad and be the one who puts A Broad Smile on your patient’s lips!

Dental professionals in all areas are needed throughout underprivileged countries. In Jamaica, there are some extremely important aspects that dentists can do in particular. People in Jamaica need a dentist because dental care is often overlooked. The licensed dentist-to-people ratio in Jamaica is 1 to 20,000! Therefore, most people don’t even have the opportunity to learn and understand the necessity and purpose of oral health care.

What A Broad Smile Foundation does.

  • Preventive dental care

  • Dental hygiene

  • Oral health education

  • Fluoride application

  • Common pediatric oral care procedures

  • Dental health screenings

  • Extractions

  • Fillings

  • Infection control

  • Running a mobile dental clinic

What to expect on this mission to Jamaica.

On this mission to Jamaica, our teams will set up clinics in the parishes of St. James St. Mary, and St. Andrew to serve the indigenous community. We will be working in partnership with the local community, parish managers, and field supervisors of the Social Development Commission to provide as much dental care and education as possible.

Volunteers will experience a true immersion experience while in Jamaica — days are spent eating local foods and seeing the country while going to the clinic each morning — seeing firsthand true Jamaican culture. Volunteers work for 4 days and then have a day of sightseeing in the beautiful country of Jamaica.
